Build Fort Wayne Powered by SEED.

This business planning class is designed for early-stage entrepreneurs who are ready to start or restart their businesses.

Classes are led by trained facilitators and cover the basics of starting a business—from establishing an entity to financial literacy, market research to cash flow, loan types to cost-benefit analyses, and more. Subject matter experts (such as lawyers, accountants, bankers, and marketing professionals) will attend several classes to help with questions and specific topics.

Education, resources, and community building are included in the $175 participant investment fee. Participants will receive this money back provided they have completed the program and after graduation requirements including the Next Step Plan coaching support.

Interested participants may fill out a Registration Application for the Cohort that best suits their schedule. Applicants are encourage to submit their registration form two weeks prior to the start of class.

Schedule: Nine Wednesday classes, January 20 through March 17 from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

    Build Institute Entrepreneur Education Participant Agreement. This program helps participants prepare to launch or relaunch their small businesses. Through SEED, the Build Institute program provides resources, education, and community building to entrepreneurs and would-be entrepreneurs in northeast Indiana.
Participant agrees to take responsibility for the effectiveness of their learning experience. Build Institute Fort Wayne facilitators are guides for the materials, connections, and other resources surrounding entrepreneurship. They are not instructors or content-knowledge experts on all topics and materials presented. To get the most out of the experience, participants are expected to attend every scheduled class of their cohort. One facilitator-approved absence is acceptable but additional absences may result in removal from the course and/or graduation denial. Cohorts typically run for three hours one day per week for nine weeks. This is a total of 27 in-class hours. Participants will read and respond to emails from SEED staff and Build facilitators within 48 hours. Participants will be given the tools to complete a business plan during the cohort. It is up to the student to apply the materials and learning to complete their business plan. To measure and ensure program effectiveness, participants agree to complete Build program surveys and respond to SEED staff and facilitators after graduation to track business progress.

Build Institute Entrepreneur Education, Commitment: Participants will receive a Build Institute SEED binder complete with class materials, a Next Steps Plan complete with individualized connections to additional support services, and a Build Institute graduate certificate. The participant is entitled to a one-hour coaching session with their strengths’ coach. Upon the completion of all graduation requirements, participant will receive their investment fee of $175 returned to them or their business entity to invest in their business future. Refunds are not eligible when the participant fee is paid by a sponsoring company or non-profit entity.  
Successful completion of the Build Institute program includes: 

  1.  A business pitch presentation (week 9)
  2. Entrepreneurial strengths assessment and coaching
  3. Completion of all required surveys up to six months after graduation (post-class survey plus 3 and 6 months) for the eligible participation fee refund. While not a graduation requirement, annual business progress surveys will also be sent to help evaluate the program's overall impact on the community. 

 All Parties Involved Commitment: Build Institute participant success is built largely on community building, inclusivity, and creating connections. As such, interactions with facilitators, all participants, guest speakers, and Build Institute/SEED staff will take place with respect, understanding, and appreciation. These interactions ensure everyone involved has the maximum opportunity to build a strong community, to ensure all peoples are afforded the opportunity to be involved and that lasting connections are made for future success.
